Little Rock — The Arkansas State Capitol Events and Entertainment Commission today announced plans to hold the first ever New Year’s Eve Rooftop Party. The event will be December 31st from 11-3 a.m. inside the State Capitol, and will include free tours of the building.
The Events and Entertainment Commission is a small committee selected by the current speaker of the house and is responsible for overseeing public events that take place at the state Capitol. This year’s commission is comprised of the outgoing Speaker of the House Davy Carter and representatives Duncan Baird, John Burris, and Micah Neal.
“We found ourselves with additional event budget after we were forced to cancel the Capitol lighting ceremony due to winter weather,” Baird, the commission’s chairman, told us. “We began holding a series of meetings at Krispy Kreme to come up with a plan to best utilize the money. Ultimately we decided it would be nice to ring in the New Year with a late night stroll on the Capitol Roof.”
In addition to building tours the event will include a photo booth set up in front of the hallway security cameras for couples wanting to have their picture taken. Free copies of the photos can be obtained by submitting this form. Guest are invited to gather in the Capitol rotunda shortly before midnight to count down to the New Year while watching the Lt. Governor’s political career crash to the ground.
The event will be catered by Doe’s Steaks and Tamales and feature live music by The Brown Soul Shoes. Attendees are encouraged to attend the pre-event party at White Water Tavern.
The event is open to the public except for State Treasurer candidates from Saline County. To RSVP call the Arkansas Secretary of State’s office at 501-682-1010 and use the secret phrase “rectify this”.

Are any of the proceeds going to Lt. Gov. Darr’s re-election campaign?
I figured Dennis Milligan would be at least a co-host. Or in charge of security.
Ha! Ha! This is great!
OMG Yessss! We finally know the late night legislators’ venturing wasn’t merely exploratory, but preparatory as well. Incidentally, I hear Willie Nelson will be in town for new years eve.
