As all of you know, we are playing with a few new content ideas. This week in the Rock will be back soon, but in rounding up stories we found a lot of people wanting to share some positive news for a change. Tell us how you like the new column in the comments, should we keep it or ditch it, and if keep what would you like to see changed. If you have an entry suggestion for next week drop us a message.
The Sun Came Out
Briefly at least this week. We are back in another raining period. Big positive is that with all the rain in May and early June, Arkansas is looking at above average precipitation on the year so far. Something that, if the trend holds, could have a huge impact on local farming this summer.
Ice Cream Time
Speaking of summer, nothing goes better with summer than ice cream. Our favorite small batch shop, Loblolly, has some great flavors out, Searcy Based Yarnell’s just released a Strawberry Lemonade Gelato flavor, and for something a little different Le Pops (previously in the River Market) is 5501 Kavanaugh.
New Zoo Train
For those of you looking to get out around the city this summer, check out the Little Rock Zoo. This past week they introduced a new train to thousands of members at their special preview. It is part of a number of much-needed improvements to the state’s largest zoo.
Downtown Hot Springs Turn Around
Speaking of much-needed improvements, it feels like a favorite summer destination for many across the state is finally beginning to show signs of improvement. The Majestic Hotel burning was a wake up call about the deterioration of downtown Hot Springs for many across the state.
Since that time we have seen a number of efforts to improve the area, our favorite being the Concerned Citizen’s group. The efforts appear to be paying off with the sale of two neglected buildings downtown.
