Huckabee Feels the Republican Primary for Governor is a Tossup Between Asa and Ross

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, speaking in front of a crowded room at the Political Animals Club, said he feels the Republican race for governor is a toss up between candidates Asa Hutchinson and Mike Ross.

“I feel like this race could go either way, both bring equally strong fiscal and socially conservative values to the table,” Huckabee says. “I am really interested to see how this race shakes out. At the same time I am still quite surprised the Democrats have not put forward a serious contender.”

The Political Animals Club meets 8-10 times per year in downtown Little Rock and features a variety of speakers from Arkansas Politics. Huckabee kicked off his speech to this months club this morning by talking to the audience of mostly political press, politicians, and lobbyist about a need to reduce infighting between Congressional Republicans in Washington.

“Take what happen when Mike Ross was in congress,” Huckabee says. “He and the Republican party held tightly to a core message and voted well as one against at times a super majority of Democrats.”

When asked later in the press Q&A if Huckabee realized Ross was running as a Democrat he responded: “I have known Ross for over 20 years, this is the first I am hearing of any Democratic leanings.”

A recent Talk Business poll showed Hutchinson and Ross in a virtual tie among self identified conservative voters. Liberal voters polled stated that Santa Clause was their best hope for a Democratic candidate for Governor at this point.
