PASADENA, Ca–Fort Smith native and current head coach of the Auburn University football program, Gus Malzahn announced this morning that he is franchising twenty-two locations of the popular eatery Waffle House. While the majority of the franchises are located in Alabama, the purchase also includes locations in Little Rock, Springdale, and Fayetteville.
“I feel like the time is right for me to make this move,” Malzahn said during a small press conference at the team hotel in Pasadena. “Enjoying a heaping plate of hash browns after a game has been somewhat of a ritual for me since I was coaching in Springdale. Obviously eating at them is not enough anymore”
The coach’s penchant for having a post-game meal at the local Waffle House after home games has received a lot of media attention this football season. Sources close to Malzahn say that the coach, visibly emotional from last night’s loss, began making phone calls throughout the night to all 22 locations.
“It’s something he’s wanted to do for quite a while now,” a close friend of Malzahn’s stated. “He just got pissed off and finally did it, spent his entire national championship appearance, SEC championship, and coach of the year bonuses to buy them.”
When asked if he thought owning locations in Fayetteville may cause any uproar, Coach Malzahn said he didn’t have any hard feelings against the University of Arkansas and hoped the people of Arkansas didn’t harbor any ill will against him.
Signs were immediately placed on the entrance to the Fayetteville locations stating “no Nutts allowed”. The move has already resulted in increased sales 5 hours into the purchase.
“Waffles and winning are always sure fire ways to get people to like you,” Malzahn stated. “We just need a few more waffles.”

No Nutts allowed! LOL
Very Good Bubba – he probably could have bought a few more if special teams play had not averaged out for Auburn – Beat Alabama with special teams, lost to FSU by kick off return.
The football gods have been smiling on him for sure. If you wanna say if the kick cover team was better they might be national champs. If Ole Miss, Texas A&M make a play or two inside the last two minutes, if they don’t get the miracle tip pass at Georgia and If Bama had a field goal kicker. Auburn is not even in the discussion. Gus is kinda like Bonnie and Clyde…He can’t stay anywhere too long before he gets some fresh money. Controversy seems to follow him as well. Say one thing do another. The measure of a man is not when success visits…It’s when adversity comes calling.
Wooo! I knew Houston Dale was gonna come up. Nobody was knocking gus’s door down before the Springdale 5 showed up. He used the leverage of those players to get an even better offer. Everyone knew nutt was under tremendous pressure to land mustain and the others. He was in a no win situation. At first they offer gus a job as receivers coach. He respecfully declined…suddenly Mustain “reopens” his recruiting. he tried to go to the 11th hour to Notre dame and Alabama. Both said thanks but no thanks. AR goes back to Gus with the OC job offer and he accepts and 4 of the 5 sign with the Hogs. He ran his offense in 2006. i don’t care if nutt told him to favor the run with McFadden, Jones andHillis. He was the HEAD COACH. His job was on the line, He should be able to run the show. Gus didn’t like it and jumped ship. Had he have stayed on another year maybe two…who knows what happens. Don’t want to hear about all the calling him high school crap. I agree it ain’t right, but you gotta be tougher skinned than that and who knows how much of that went on and I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on that. Gus is about Gus. Used up ASU as well. he knew Chizik was in trouble at Auburn and they were gonna come after him when they canned Chizik. Let’s see what happens with him in the coming years.
Good offense don’t work, w/o calling right plays. Who did the play calling. Tn. Was beat, so lets roll Stoerner out to fumble, instead of taking a knee.
