Lt. Governor Mark Darr today acknowledge that he utilizes Arkansas State Police assistance in the restroom to wipe so that he can use his laptop un-interrupted.

The report comes following Freedom of Information Act requests filled looking into the time that Darr’s office directly utilized the state police. Last week it was revealed that Darr frequently used a state police officer to drive him around the state so that he could talk on his phone. After reviewing the hours there were still an average of 30 minutes per day, typically between 8:30 and 10 a.m., unaccounted for in the time logs.

Rumors began swirling over the weekend that Darr was using the time to scout campaign spots for his 2014 Lt Governor re-election campaign. Others sources said he was using the time to spread rumors about Jeff Long becoming the University of Texas Athletic Director to get Long a raise at the University of Arkansas.

“I want to put all those rumors of me misusing my constitutionally awarded State Police assistance,” Darr said in an emailed statement to members of the media this morning. “Being Lt. Governor of Arkansas comes with a lot of responsibilities. Without my undivided attention this state would fall apart. Frequently I use the State Police’s assistance to accompany me to the restroom so I can bring my laptop and send emails like this one. Wiping and typing is extremely unsanitary as you all know, plus sometimes it takes a lot of time that I do not have with my responsibilities. I feel they are doing Arkansas a great service.”

Darr would not comment on the nature of the emails he wrote in the bathroom. Our own server logs show significant activity from the State Capitol offices during the times Darr used the State Police services over the past month.
