McDonald’s today unveiled their latest menu item, the Funyuns Big Mac Taco.
The taco features two all beef patties, special big mac sauce, lettuce, tomato, and pickles inside of a taco shell made from Funyuns onion flavored chips. McDonald’s says the new taco will be available across the nation starting Monday.
“We wanted to come up with a new and fun way to enjoy a Big Mac,” McDonald’s director of product development Ronald Bell tells us. “Unfortunately there are not many options. We tried placing it on a waffle, deep-fried on a stick, inside a cake, and blended into a soup. None of that worked out so well. Then we grabbed a package of Funyuns while visiting a taco truck and it all clicked.”
McDonald’s is positioning the Funyuns Big Mac Taco as a direct competitor to Taco Bell’s Doritos Locos Taco.
Taco Bell took their shot at McDonald’s last month by introducing a full line of breakfast items targeting McDonald’s items such as the McGriddle, breakfast burritos, and cinnamon melts.
“We are seeing increasing pressure to be innovative and cross lines in the fast food industry,” McDonald’s president Don Thompson tells us. “Our competitors continue to chip away at our product offering. We wanted to respond with an equally awkward and tasteless product similar to what they are producing. Seems like people love that stuff.”
McDonald’s says they are considering additional menu items such as a McRib Fritos Chalupa and a Fillet O Fish Cheetos burrito.

They are test marketing these in our area. So far, only 7 people have been hospitalized as a result. Not bad!
