FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas Razorback baseball coach David Van Horn announced today that all Diamond Hog home games in the 2014 season will feature an expanded seventh-inning stretch, which will include a full 45-minute yoga class.
“We’ve been seeking ways to make our in-game experience more engaging,” Van Horn said. “A mass yoga class with thousands of Hog fans just seems like a fun and healthy option. Namaste.”
Athletic department officials said they aren’t worried about the logistics of having thousands of fans on the field mid-game.
“There’s plenty of room out there,” said Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long. “Just roll out your matt and breathe. Namaste.”
The mid seventh-inning yoga classes will be led by world-class yogis dressed in the familiar Razorback mascot costumes.
“I practiced my Downward Hog everyday during the off season,” said senior catch Jake Wise. “But fans can fully expect me to build into a warrior pose between batters this season. Namaste.”
According to athletic department officials, Hog fans can expect a variety of yoga styles as the season progresses.
“[Arkansas Athletic Director] Jeff [Long] is definitely an ashtanga guy,” Van Horn said. “But I tend to prefer a more sivananda style. It will change from series to series. Namaste.”
To help launch the classes, first 1,000 fans at each home series game against Eastern Illinois and South Alabama will receive a commemorative Sam’s Club yoga mat and a ‘namaste’ beer koozie.
