SOCHI, Russia — Hours after failing to medal in his signature event, American snowboarder Shaun White found out he was a winner after all. The former gold medalist was the clear winner of a totally gnarly door prize at the Red Bull after party.
“Dude,” White said. “This makes the whole trip, like, worth it.”
The bodacious door prize consisted of a large gift basket containing several Red Bull-branded items, including a bandanas, mittens and colorful rubber bracelets.
“Awesome,” White added.
Iouri Podladtchikov, the Swiss snowboarder who hours earlier claimed the gold medal in the half-pipe competition, left the party empty handed.
“It wasn’t my year,” Podladtchikov said. “I will enter my name into the hat again in four years.”
