Vladimir Putin Voices Support for Copenhagen Zookeepers Who Slaughtered Giraffe

Russian President Vladimir Putin is standing by Copenhagen zookeepers who senselessly slaughtered Marius, a young giraffe considered unfit for breeding, and fed the body to lions in front of zoo visitors.

“Westerners are always whining about something or other,” Putin said. “One day it’s hotel accomodations, the next day they complain about the killing of a harmless animal in front of a paying crowd. I also suspect the giraffe was gay, so there’s that.”

Putin added that he has invited the zookeepers to star in their own reality television show called “Zoo Butchers,” which would be geared toward young Russian children.

“If the zoo men can’t appear on my show, the least they can do is take some of our stray Sochi mutts to Denmark and feed them to the lions,” he said. “The bears in our zoos are getting too fat.”

An online petition calling for the resignation of Bengt Holst, scientific director of the Copenhagen zoo, has received nearly 67,000 signatures. A different petition started by Putin aims to ban homosexual animals from Russia, but it has only received seven signatures.
