Razorbacks / Red Wolves Announce Annual Game at War Memorial Stadium

Hot on the heels of their first baseball matchup with UALR, and ahead of the football game against Ole Miss, the University of Arkansas announced the long-awaited annual matchup against Arkansas State University to take place each year at War Memorial Stadium.

Representatives from both schools were on hand for the announcement and spoke to the years of work to make this matchup happen.

“We have heard from fans across the state about how much they want to see the Razorbacks and Red Wolves play here in central Arkansas each year,” Arkansas State athletic director Terry Mohajir said. “After many years of negotiations across multiple administrations, we finally struck a deal to make it happen. Our intramural championship air hockey teams will play each other right here, every year.”

The details of the deal have yet to be released, but sources say that a 10-year deal was signed to have each school’s intramural champion in team air hockey compete against each other in the press box at War Memorial Stadium each year. Each school will hold an on-campus tournament to determine the winner in October, followed by the winning team representing each school for the state championship game in November.

The game is set to take place on the first Saturday in November each year. Each team will have a 50 ticket allotment to fans with ticket sales split equally between the two schools.

“We are really excited to see this historic matchup take place. The University of Arkansas wants to continue to make progress on intrastate athletic competition, what better way to do it than this,” UA athletic director Hunter Yurachek explains. “From the moment I took this job I heard fans talk about playing an annual game with ASU at War Memorial. Now they have it, a great competitive air hockey matchup.”

When pressed later in the press conference about the possibility of an annual football game in Little Rock, the ghost of Frank Broyles appeared and shouted “No way in hell!” shortly before possessing the body of Hunter Yurachek.
