Bret Bielema Wins Auction to Coach Arkansas State Redwolves’ Spring Game

JONESBORO – The Arkansas State athletic department announced today that Razorback Coach Bret Bielema has secured the winning bid to coach the spring scrimmage football game.

The Red Wolves Foundation announced the auction last month featuring the chance to coach the spring game along with a number of additional coaching duties surrounding the game. Bielema’s winning bid of 12,000 came in minutes before the auction on Ebay ended.

“Bielema’s bet came through so late that we initially thought some random Silicon Valley investor won the auction,” Arkansas State athletic director Terry Mohajir. “Coach Bielema winning this auction makes much more sense and we are proud to have him lead our team on the field to do battle against ourselves.”

The Red Wolves spring game is set for Friday, April 18th at 7 p.m.

As part of the winning auction Bielema will be the head coach for the game, give the pregame and halftime talk, decide between sets of pre-selected calls, wear the staff headset, receive a Powerade bath, coaching gear, and photos of his head coaching experience.

Bielema says that the success of former Arkansas State coaches, like Gus Malzahn, inspired him to bid in the auction.

“I have deep respect for the quality coaches that Arkansas State produces,” Bielema says. “It has been a while since I have won anything. I hope the success on the field in Jonesboro gives me some positive karma moving forward with the Razorbacks.”
